What is the significance of a "pathological" exaggerated jaw jerk?

by CCF-Neuro-M.D.-RPS, Jun 17, 2001 12:00AM
Dear Stormy:

It depends on what you mean by pathological?  If it is exaggerated then it might be a normal variation, it might be due to cranial nerve damage or insult, or it might be due to cortical damage.  It might also be due to a metabolic cause that is systemic in etiology.  As with anything in neurology, the significance of the finding depends on the etiology of the finding.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
