: I have PN which has progressed to the point where I have difficulty
in walking. Extensive testing of all sorts has failed to locate a cause
  or source for this condition.
I have also been taking Zyloprim (allopurinol) to prevent gout in rather
large dosage (300 mg daily) for 20 or more years. The PDR shows that
allopurinol can be the cause of PN in 15% on the population who use this
drug, so I have discontinued it's use.
If this was the cause of my condition, will the PN diminish in time,
  or possibly completely reverse itself?
  Thank

The PDR lists allopurinol as having PN reported in less than 1% of cases. I asked
our neuromuscular people and they have not seen this as a cause so I can't
help you much in terms of the likelyhood that your PN will get better off the drug.
Many cases of PN go undiagnosed and you should speak with your neurologist specifically.
I have tried to call Glaxo Wellcome who make this medication but have been unable to
get through. The number listed in the PDR is 1800 334 0089. Good luck.
