Physical Therapy?

What sort of physical therapy is applied for cervical disc degeneration?
C6/C7 are the worst, some degeneration in C1-C5 as well. Symptoms are
constant headaches, muscle spasms in neck, base of skull area, shoulders
  and upper back.
  Thanks,

Dear M.
As part of initial therapy for neck pain, stiffness and related symptoms  related to degeneration, discs and other problems of the neck, we frequently refer patients to physical therapy.  As neurologist we typically do not coach patients (which is the job of the therapist)in specific exercises. The goals of therapy are to increase range of motion via stretchin motions and strength in various muscles of the neck and shoulders. Traction can also be used if there is an cervical disc problem. If you are having trouble with neck pain, I recommend that you get a referral to a physical therapist.  Occasionaly just a few visits are needed to learn exercises that you can use on a regular basis at home.  Good Luck.
