Pineal cyst

I am so afraid and frustrated. I am going for another MRI Tuesday and am just terrified about what they will find, I was diagnosed 2 years ago with a pineal cyst- like many others my doctors said it is nothing to worry about.

However 2 years later and I have not been myself since, I have anxiety, panick attacks, headachs(my first migraine was saturday) I have poor concentration, numbness in my hands - they say it is from my herniated disks in my neck. I have a very hard time remembering things and just always feel "out of it" its very scarey and frustrating- I just want to feel normal again.

Has anyone  gotten any help with these symtptoms or founf a Dr in the New York area who believes we are suffering?

Any input would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Cheryl

Well I have had my consult with the neurosurgeon; he kindly gave me 5 min of his valuable time.  Told me I had a 1.3 ct Symptomatic Cyst that they really can’t do anything about.  Its not blocking any fluids so it is not a danger to me, as far as my symptoms go (which he didn’t even ask me about- I told him when he wanted to dismiss me 2 min into seeing him),  they are migraine related and could be just caused by high blood pressure (which by the way I have never had in my life).  So he gave me a prescription for pain pills, which does not help my vision, dizziness or even the headaches.  So add me to the list I found on here where there is no help for this......exactly what I worried about,

Some of these experiences are freighting to hear. I have recently had a CT and an MRI done because of my headaches and vision difficulty.  I actually didn’t think too much about the headaches because I could function through them, however when the "squiggly lines" (floaters?) started they would incapacitate me for up to 20 min a time several times a day.  The CT showed a cystic like mass.  The MRI showed a 1.3cm lesion on my pineal gland.  My apt with the neurosurgeon is a month away.  I’m not have the floaters as much however I am having a lot of "wooziness"  I get up and my walking slants, I feel like I’m going to fall over  I have trouble focusing my eyes or it seems shadowy or blurry and I have a lot of trouble typing (what I do for a living).  I also cant seem to concentrate or be organized anymore.  Originally I was concerned with cancer or some type of tumor that they would have to remove.  Now after reading this post and the ones about lesions, I’m more concerned with not getting any help.  Also I should say my Dr treated me with steroids for migraines with no effect and Migraine meds don’t do a thing. Can I expect help or not?

Thank you Dr. Anurag,

I am going for a second MRI on Tuesday.

I have no idea of the size, I only know my symptoms have gotten worse.

I also forgot to mentiion I have am hearing a high pitch noise in my right ear, canthis be related to the cyst as well- it just started 2 weeks ago. My GP said there is no ear wax or ear infection.

Do youknow of any Neurosurgeons in the New York area who believe in these symtpoms and can perform the surgery if I need it?

Thank you again for yur advise,

Cheryl

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.

Pineal cyst is a brain cyst that may remain asymptomatic for long years. But if it is large it can cause headache, poor attention span, visual disturbance, paralysis, seizures and gait disorders. Therefore, surgical intervention is essential to remove the large cyst and if permanent damage needs to be avoided.  Craniotomy, needle aspiration and cerebral shunts are common surgical treatment that may help.  Please consult a neurologist right away in this regard. Hope this helps.
