Hello... My son is now 14. He has a syndrome of acromegaly and gigantism
like my brother had. My brother was found to have several pituitary
microadenomas on autopsy. My son had an 8 mm pituitary microadenoma
that just disappeared 6 months later. His endocrinologist decided not to
do any more MRI's and just follow him with blood work. He did have a very
high IGF1 levels that normalized 6 months ago. He's now having is 6 month
blood work up and I noticed a pattern in his thyroid function that has me
=Dear Chris Sinthavong, The changes in the Thyroid function studies could
represent normalization values as a result of the spontaneous shrinkage
or necrosis of the pituitary microadenoma. I would recomend voicing your
concerns to the endocrinologist and developing some time of plan if the values
continue to fall. In addition, you may wish to contact the laboratory where the
thyroid tests were done at, to discuss with them how accurate their tests are if
they were repeated on a single blood sample (E.g. would repeated TSH on a sinle sample
be wthin +/- 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 etc. of one another). You may find that even though they
are dropping, they are within normal parameters. "This information is provided for

  curious.
Here are 3 sets of thyroid function studies that were done in 6 month
intervals listed from earliest to the latest.
  TSH 4.05 3.73 2.75 Norm:(0.35.-5.50)
  T3U 27.8 26.9 32.7 Norm:(22.5-37.0)
  T4 6.7 6.4 5.4 Norm:(4.5-10.9)
  FTI 1.9 1.7 1.8 Norm:(1.4-3.1)
I just noticed a slowly decreasing TSH and T4 and was just curious if
this was anything to be concerned about or since it's all within normal
limits.. to just not worry for now?
Presently he does have a mild cortisol deficiancy and does need
hydrocortisone for stress. Any explanation on the thyroid function would
  be really helpful to me.
I am a family practice nurse and can handle any medical jargon thrown at
me.. as a nurse, I dig deeper with my children than I probably ever
should. I don't know if his endocrinologist is going to notice the
downhill curb or if it's even important.. I may mention it to him if he
  dosn't mention it to me.
Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

  Chris
