Please help! Guillain barre concern

I went to the emergency room for tingling in my fingers and toes. I am also experiencing muscle twitching all over my body. I went and had an MRI done and the doctor saw no lesions on my brain. My brain was normal. My concern is, I had a staph infection back in June of 2008 and it seems like this is where it all began. Im wondering if I have an autoimmune disease that could be attacking the nerves in my body...Has anyone heard of guillain barre syndrome or have it? I'm wondering if it's detected with an MRI!? Thanks to all of you who respond.

I had guillain barre 18 years ago and I was 15 at the time. The Dr.s cannott pinpoint how you get it. I was paralyzed all the way up to my eyes. They did the plasmapheresis on me 6 times. Now on may 14, 2012 my father has been diagnosed with guillian barre and is intensive care at huntsville hospital. He has been there 10 days now and they just started the plasmapheresis last night and today on top of all of this he now has staph infection. please pray for him and our family.

My daughter has Guillain barre sysndrom which is a variant of C Miller Fisher Syndrome.  The GB, at least for my daughter, started from her head and moved all the way down to her feet.  It started with eye's becoming completely dialated and then she could not move her eyes.  Lost all reflexes as the mylon on her nerve endings were eaten away by her body.  GB started for her as a result of the flu.  She had MRI and spinal tap and that didn't detect GB, just ruled out other things.  The confirmation comes from a blood test checking I think GB10 levels which were very elevated in her.
