Please help me.

I am a 20 year old white healthy female. About a month ago the boy I nanny woke up with a horrible headache and was admitted to the hospital and had meningitis. A week after that I woke up with a horrible headache that wouldn't go away. I get really dizzy and light headed frequently. I went to the ER and had an MRI, MRV, blood work and a spinal tap and everything comes out fine. After that I was admitted to the hospital. I have been to every type of doctor possible and they don't know what is wrong with me. My headache is in the back of my head and it never goes away. It isn't a sharp pain but more of a dull annoying pain. I get very dizzy after I eat food. I am currently taking midron, amitriptilyn, indocin, compozine, fioricet, and lyrica. These were all prescribed by a neurologist. None of those are helping. Even medicines like lortab don't help. Could it be possible that even though all the tests in the hospital came out clean that I have a type of meningitis since I was exposed to it? Please  help me because I have been sick for a month and I'm done being sick.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
The transmission of meningitis is by person to person direct contact, so it is quite possible that you could have caught the infection from the boy. However all your tests including lumbar puncture have been normal and there is no neck stiffness or fever. There have been cases though where the CSF exam was normal and the bacteria was detected by CSF culture.
You can discuss the relevance of CSF culture in your case with your doctor. Keep us posted!
