Post Polio Progression

by BonnieRuth, Oct 26, 2007 11:00PM
I have recently been diagnosed with Post Polio Syndrome (paralytic polio in my legs, age 3, 1955).  I've done extensive research and will be seeing a PPS specialist in two weeks.  My question ... I've read the optomistic assurances that if one paces and diligently cares for themselves that symptoms can be stayed.  I've also read and heard stories about those whose strength and health deterioate quickly.  I have had to adjust my lifestyle significantly in the last three months, but now that I'm "listening" and working to keep the pain and weakness at bay, what are the odds I can maintain a mobile lifestyle into the next 20 or 30 years?  I'm not looking for assurances, simply a reality check.
