Pre-Op medications used prior to neurosurgery

Why is it necessary to prescribe Keppra prior to neurosurgery, if there is no history of seizure activity?

KEPPRA is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial onset seizures in adults and children 4 years of age and older with epilepsy.
This might have been recommended for a short term remedy to avoid occurance of sizure and the surgery may cure you fully.
