Pseudotumor cerebri

I am 25 year old female who was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri in April 2007.  Since then I have had an LP and been under the care of a neurologist as well as a neuro-opthamologist.  I have also been on 1000 mg of Diamox daily this whole time.
About a month ago I tried to take myself off of the Diamox.  Within one week I was having horrible headaches (to the point of where I could not get out of bed) and my vision was blurring out.  I already have a permanent blind spot temporally in the left eye from the pressure being too high, so when I noticed the rest of the vision blurring out I was very concerned.  My neurologist promptly put me back on Diamox and is considering another LP.  My headaches have not gone away since restarting the Diamox.  Since I have been on the medication for almost a year should I consider a surgical approach such as a shunt?  I have an appointment with my neuro-opthamologist in 2 weeks and would like to discuss it with him.  Any advice would be very helpful at this point.  I am very tierd of being on the medication and dealing with it's side effects.

I also have tingling in my hands and feet as a side effect of the diamox but my neurolighst prescribed a potassium supplement and taking that with the diamox had stopped the tingling.
