Ptosis & muscle twitching

I am a 30 year old woman looking for answers to my symtoms:  my left eyelid has been droopy for almost 2 years now.  I've seen a neurologist who ordered an MRI, CT and an EMG, all of which were clear.  He also tried to see if Mestinon would have an effect so I took it over the course of a month (2 tablets a day on average) and there was no visible improvement.  I stopped taking it about a month ago.  My eye doctor prescribed glasses (my vision is slightly affected by the ptosis), but couldn't detect anything "serious".  I also have chronic sinusitis and allergies, and I'm on a drug called Aerus right now for my allergies.  Just over the past few days I've experienced constant twitching in the muscle above my left knee and my legs feel a little weak.  I'm terrified that it might be a new symptom related to a serious nerve or muscular disorder, although I'm praying there's a simpler answer... please help.  Thank you.

Thank you for getting back to me.  So the effects of mestinon could be visible a month after I stopped taking it?  It was prescribed as an empirical therapy (the idea was to rule out myasthenia gravis) and I didn't experience any side effects while I was taking it.  Thanks again.

Hi,
How are you now?
What I believe from your post is that you were started on Mestinon (2 tablets a day), this probably, I assume, is started after diagnosing you with Myasthenia Gravis. If so then what were the test done to diagnose that? If it was started as an empirical therapy, then he could have gone up on the dosages as the effect of mestinon last for 3 to 4 hours only.
What you are experiencing now could be side effect of mestinon.
I think you should reconsult the physician who has started medicine or get a review check by neuro-muscular disorder specialist.

Hi,
You could be suffering from side effects of mestinon as it is known to cause muscle weakness and fasciculations or twitching. Please consult your physician at the earliest.
