Question about epidermoid cyst

Question about epidermoid cyst

On the 8th of February I was involved in a head on car accident. As a result I had an MRI on my neck and brain because of pain I was experiencing in my neck, plus I was having head aches, dizziness, and an electrical sensation I was feeling throughout the top of my face. The MRI came back with the finding of what looks like an epidermoid cyst about 2cm in diameter on the 5th nerve. I really didn't notice anything wrong until I was involved in the car accident, so this kind of was a surprise to me. Now that it is a couple of months later, my symptoms are getting a little better, yet I still have headaches and dizziness. My question is, could an epidermoind cyst cause these types of symptoms? Also, I realize that this type of cyst is congenital, yet can a traumatic experience such as a car accident exacerbate an epidermoid cyst?

Sorry to hear about your car accident. I don't think that the accident would have changed the epidermoid cyst, but there is always a possibility that trauma could have induced swelling of the area and therefore irritated the trigeminal nerve. The epidermoid cyst would be involved as it has taken up space or created a mass where one shouldn't be and therefore limited the space. Was there edema on the MRI that was noticable? Epidermal cysts can grow but usually they cause no problems when found by accident-please no pun intended.
