RSD

by keelysmommy, Apr 24, 2008 12:04PM
I have posted on here before.  3 weeks ago in Phlebotomy class a girl hit a nerve in my arm upon drawing my blood.  Since, I have had tingling in my fingers when I stretch out my arm, and pain in my arm.  The pain is mild and seems to be getting less.  I do have this odd feeling on my arm though, it's like the feeling you have when you put vicks on your body the menthol stuff.  I have read about rsd and some people say they get it from venipuncture.  I am unsure what to do here, or to think.  This has got me pretty worked up.  I have spoke to drs. and nurses and they say it will heal and be fine.  And my arm feels kind of weak.

As you are a learned person I'm sure you researched RSD throughly and came to the conclusion that it is definitely not a diagnosis that you want. Since your injury is still fairly recent I don't think doctors will be able to make a RSD diagnosis yet. I would still go to your doctors though and ask for any and all tests that they have for it if you think it is a definite possibility, however there are no definitive tests for it. I honestly think you are being a little paranoid and worrisome. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that there is something wrong with you, I just don't think it is RSD. Have you been to any specialists for your symptoms?

I have been to 3 doctors.  They all say it will heal.  It seems weird to me that this isn't a more common injury.  It seems as if it has gotten better, the pain has subsided and the tingling has lessoned.  However, it is still there and it has been 3 weeks.  I am very scared because as you have said this is something you do not want.  I do not know where to go from here.  If I should continue to wait and keep praying about it, or if I need to pursue this.  I have not been to any specialist to speak of, just regular doctors.

Yeah I think it might be time to go see a specialist then. They'd be able to test the nerves and stuff. Let us know how it goes.
