Radiation effects of acoustic neuroma -pons

by Pbun, May 29, 2008 09:56AM
I had 5 weeks (2 Gray per day) of LINAC radiation one year ago for an acoustic neuroma (2.4 cm, I think). A year later, I have facial paresis and trigeminal nerve problems (numbness in face). There is a spot as large as the AN between the brachium ponti and 4th ventricle. Brain stem invloved. It was not there in Oct. I know that problems in this area are life threatening. I have to wait more than a week while a neurologist talks to the dr who did the radiation. This was not supposed to happen. My eyeball hurts and I look and feel worse every day. They want to do a PET to see what types of cells these are . The AN is unchanged, actually 1 mm bigger. Memory and cognitive problems, too.  I am worried that whatever this is will get worse. What happens when this region gets irradiated and damaged? It looks bad.
