Radio Frequency Neuroablation (RFN) for Facet Joint Syndrome Pain

by Jessica, Nov 11, 1999 12:00AM
What is the long-term effectivness of RFN treatment for chronic pain due to facet joint syndrome in the C-5/C-6 area?

by CCF neuro MD MM, Nov 12, 1999 12:00AM
Since the procedure involves ablation or destruction of the nerves involved there should be no recurrance of the pain after the origional procedure.
This will be successful  PROVIDED there is complete destruction / ablation of the tissues responsible at the time of the initial surgery.
Thus the outcome is to a large extent dependent on the success of the initial procedure which in turn is dependent on the skill and experience of the physician performing the procedure and the extent of the origional problem. Since every case is different you cannot garantee a specific result in any given case.
