Rasmussen's Encephalitis

My son who is 9 yrs old was diagnosed with Rasmussen's Encephalitis. He undergone IVIG last December 2007, at present his doctors are requesting for a repeat MRI of the brain and a 24-hour Video EEG prior to surgery. I am looking for people or institutions who are willing to help for my son's operation so that he could go back to his normal life again. Many thanks ang God bless!

Adult-onset Rasmussen's Encephalitis (abbreviated to RE here) is an extremely rare, progressive, central nervous system disorder, characterized by seizures, hemiparesis (paralysis on one side), inflammation of the brain, and mental deterioration. RE is also known as Rasmussen's Syndrome and Rasmussen's Disease. This disorder occurs almost exclusively in children under the age of 10.
Alternate treatment includes (apart from the conventional surgery) Trials of various combinations of powerful drugs that suppress the immune system (prednisolone, azathioprine, methotrexate, and cyclophosphamide) and therapies that modulate the function of the immune system (plasma exchange and intravenous immunoglobulin) have been tried. However, these trials have usually been performed in individual patients and there are no good data on the optimum combination, dosing, or duration of immune treatments.
