Re: Axonal Neuropathy in Children

I am a 38 year old male recently diagnosed with axonal neuropathy.  My neurologist thinks it is most likely caused by heredity.  Assuming this to be true, what are the chances my two children (7 year old boy and 5 year old girl) could develop this?  And, at what age would they be most likely to develop it?

Dear Mark:
With the topic of axonal neuropathy, there are a wide variety of inherited disorders.  You will have to give me an idea what type of neuropathy you have.  What are your symptoms?  At what age did the symptoms present?  Who else in your family has similar symptoms?  The basic groups are divided in Hereditary motor sensory neuropathies, metabolic neuropathies, neuropathies with systemic diseases, myopathies, and the muscle dystrophies (the last two may be confused with neuropathies).
