: Hi Karla,
I'm not a doctor, but after all the diagnostics I've been through for the last two months (for MS and Lyme), I feel like I've had a crash-course in brain surgery try to get a handle on what is going on, and not let my docs bankrupt me with unecessary tests, or possibly dangerous ones.
The kind neuro that's been answering your posts cannot answer your question because YOU STILL HAVEN"T TOLD HIM WHAT AGENT (INFECTIOUS VIRUS OR SIMILAR) your "elevated" IgM corresponded to.
IgM is not a specific antibody. IgM is a general term that applies to any antibody that corresponds specificlly to an acute (or current) infection.  Let me elaborate-- you keep telling him your "IgM" is elevated, but IgM's antibodies and their normal levels are different for every ailment.  The IgM level for Lyme has to be over the value of 1 for a "positive" diagnosis (levels of .99 and below are considered normal).  The IgM levels considered high enough for a definative diagnosis of current Epstien Barr infection may be totally different.  In some illnesses, it may be normal for there to be a presence of some IgM levels.  In others, the presence of a detectable IgM's may be diagnostic in and of itself.
Tell the doctor what ailment or infection the particular elevated IgM level was for (look at your tests, and it should list the name of the disease just above the IgM, IgG and IgA results), or else he can't help you.
Good luck~
Dear Camille:
Thanks.

All the test says above it is this: Immonfix Electrophoresis No Paraprote detected.  Thats it!
Dear Karla:
If I remember correctly, this antibody test is to test for antibodies that would make your vitamin B12 level low.  Since the tests are essentially negative, you should worry about not having the protein to allow vitamin B12 absorption.
Sincerely,
