     I'm trying to find out what can cause Avascular Necrosis of the hip's.
About 5 years ago is when the pain in my hips started, and it kept getting worse to the point where I had to have hip repacement 2 years ago. I've been taking medicene for epilepsy for 34 years now, and was wondering if it could be the cause of it. Been on almost all medicenes for epilepsy, Felbatol, Topamax, Dilantan, Lamictal, Tegretol, Zorontin, Phenabarbitol, Depakote, Neurontin, Mysoline and Tranxene.

I have searched the computer database of all medica literature back to 1966
using all known anti-epileptic drugs and have not found a single reported
case of avascular necrosis of the femoral head caused by anticonvulsant
drugs.
This problem can be asociated with one type drug therapy however, it is
classically associated with chronic steroid use, whether this is for asthma
lupus or any other inflammatory condition.
There is however no known link with anti-epileptic drugs.






  
   I just wanted to thank you for the info you wrote, even though it wasn't
what I wanted to here. I know there has to be something that caused Avascular Necrosis and wanted to tell you my dr. said I have Pseudo Bulbar Palsy- Carpal Tunnel Syndrom (syndrome) - Ulnar Neuropathies - Proptosin, along with my epilepsy. And I never did use or take any kind of steroids that you said could cause Avascular Necrosis. Could you tell me how good is the Vagus Nerve Stimulater doing?? I'm going to have it done because I've tried all meds and no luck. Thank's
