I had a C-Section over 2 years ago where I was administered a spinal
(not an epidural).  This was the nurses first time doing a spinal and
long story short - over 8 tries later, it finally took.  I noticed
that when the spinal was wearing off, my leg and toes were still numb
as if the numbing medicine was still in me.  I have had 3 MRIs which
have come up fine and only 1 out of 3 EMGs came up positive.
I do not feel anything on the bottom of my foot or my first 3 toes.
My knee down and knee up is numb with hot/cold, tingeling sensations.
Up until a year ago, I had no pain, but I now have debilitating achy
pain.  It starts as a lightening strike pain and ends with what I call
a thunder storm - where the pain hits certain unknown points in my
leg and foot.  I was recently referred to a physical therpaist again
who told me that it felt as if my muscles and tendons in my back
were swelled.  They put me in traction and did

Kristy...an AFO is a brace....I also wear an abbr. version....what it does is fits inside your shoe (you have to take your insole out...it begin at mid-calf and wraps around the back of your calf...then you velcro it around to the front
....then the brace actually runs down your calf, ankle and fits inside your shoe and supports your whole foot....it is really great for returning the function of heel toe walking again...I also walk with a cane....the brace is sorta of tacky looking...mine is anyway...it is a hard white plastic...and it cost approx $50 but your insurance will cover it....you can also have a custom AFO brace made...that is where a mold is taken of you foot so you get an exact fit...the problem there is that you do not use your foot at all...but with the plastic  AFO brace...you still have the ability to move your foot a bit...I can drive with mine on...I wear long skirts that cover the brace for the most part...if you wear pants you wouldn't see it at all...however you must wear an enclosed shoe for this to work....sandals won't support it...definitely give it a try...you will find that you have more confidence in your leg/foot again.....good luck....I am 43 with L5 nerve damage and chronic radiculopathy...so I related to what your going thru....good luck!!!
