I was on beta blockers for 14 years, inderal for 10 and tenormin for 4 for SVT.  I recently had an ablation and have discontinued beta blockers. 5 weeks after discontinuing the drug I developed peripheral neuropathy, Is this related to stopping the beta blockers?  THank You.

Dear Beth:
My experience with beta blockers is using them for migraine prophylaxis.  I have never seen neuropathy from beta blocker use or discontinuence. There are other types of heart rhythm medications that can cause a peripheral neuropathy such as amiodarone.  But not with the beta-blockers.  I tried to look up if there has been a published report on what you describe and I have come up empty.
Sorry,
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro MD
