Through an MRI I have been diagnosed with a bulging disc at T-8 & 9 with denervation of nerve roots.  Over the past 1 1/2 years I've had epidural steriod injections, phy. therapy, and acupuncture to help control pain in the rib area and shoulder.  These seem to be helping but now I am getting tingling in the bottom of both feet.  Could this be from the disc problem and I would appreciate knowing what type of specialist to see if this Thoracic disc problem worsens.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Dear Lee,
Thank you for your question. Certainly a herniated disk could cause tingling in the feet, but this symptom can have other causes. I think it would be better to see a neurologist first, in order to get a detailed clinical examination before appropriate tests are performed (such as an MRI). If it turns out that a disk is pressing against the spinal cord, surgery could be recommended, but this is not always the case. That's why I would start with a neurologist, who will refer you to a neurosurgeon if necessary. I hope this helps.

can cause neuropathy (tingling, numbness, pins and needles) in feet, arms, hands and face?
