: I have a multitude of neuro problems that have been occuring over many years.  The latest one is a spastic gait.  In the past when this gait has occured it has only lasted 1-2 days.  Currently I have had it for over 2 months.  My doctors basically just say that in the past tests have been run and they have found some things but nothing definite with diseases they know about.  So they have become apathetic about it all.  A year ago I went to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale and they said to come back with any new symptoms.  The doctors here just say that while there is a new symptom, they seem reluctant to do more testing?  What is your opinion?  Thanks for any responses.

True spastic gait caused by neurologic sidease is secondary to disruption of nerve fibers that run in bundles known as the corticospinal tracts. Your description of your symptoms is unfortunately too vague to specifically comment on, but if you have truly had a spastic gait for two MONTHS, it is time for you to be reevaluated. Rarely, tumors or vascular malformations in the spinal cord or brainstem can cause episodic bouts of the same or similar neurologic symptoms, but I suspect these have been ruled out in your case. Nevertheless, I would be reexamined and if your neurologist finds an objective deficit when examining you, additional investigation may indeed be warranted.
