Burning sensations and ringing in the ears are two symptoms which,
depending on the pattern of involvement can have either a serious
or completely harmless significance.
Burning sensations are probably likely to have a serious underlying
cause if they are constant, stay in the same place, associated with
numbness in the same area, associated with weakness of muscles in
the same area, progressive ( like working up along a limb )and if
abnormalities are present on tests.
If none of these characteristics are present then a serious underlying
cause is not present and usually no cause is found.
Ringing in the ears is significant if it is associated with deafness,
loss of balance, vertigo, dizziness, double vision, in the absence of
these features it too has little liklehood af being associated with
serious underlying problems.
