I have recently been diagnosed with epilepsy even though I have no family history, had no seizures head traumas or high fevers as a child and EEG and MRI are all normal. i was wondering if participating in Judo for the past three years could be the cause. Judo involves a lot of throwing of ourselves and other people. I have never got knocked uncounsious but could hitting you head hard and constantly be enough to do some damage? Also, if itis enough to damage would it have showed up on the MRI? Thank-you for your time.   Tara

: There is an association between epilepsy and head injury but only if the head injury is sufficiently to cause a skull fracture of loss of conciousness, I think it is unlikely that this new problem with seizures has anything to do with judo if you have not recieved a signifivant head injury .
I would also agree with your suggestion that anything severe enough to cause seizures should show upon the MRI scan.
