: I have  had an MRI and diagnosed with herniated disc L5-S1. I cannot get into see a neouro surgeon for 5 weeks. What kind of exercises should I do until then? I don,t want to make it worse, but I also want to try to help it if possible.I am taking Ultram and 800 mg Ibuprofin every 5 hours, and it still leaves quite a bit of pain in my left leg.Should I walk as much as  I can stand,or should I stay off my feet as much as possible?

Thanks for the question. It is not possible to explain the exercises over the internet. Are general recommendations are to have patients with back pain, disc problems to be involved in physical therapy. I would contact the doctor that ordered the MRI on you and if they think it is not contraindicated then you should be enrolled in physical therapy.
