Dear Doctors-
I was diagnosed with migraine epilepsy syndrome in 1997 after my ungoing basilar migraine with left side neurological symptoms turned into movement seizures.  Again, they are mostly on the left side and have been termed as "partial/complex" seizures.
i am 37 and female and have been having them for four years. It is only the last 3 that I have had seizures. The headache pain is seldom and is controlled with meds successfully.  The seizures are being treated with pnenobarb and ativan.  I still have seizures but the intensitity is less.  I t is more like the "drugged" feeling of the basilar migraine with some facial contortions and what I call the "clawing" or curling up of my left hand. I have difficulty walking and focusing .  sometimes I cannot respond to questions although I can hear them.  My hand is taking longer to recover than it used to.
My question is this: I have been told that my neurogenic bladder, which failed about the same time as the seizures started, is not related.I self cath 7 times daily for four yrs now.  I wondered if you see alot of people with seizures and neurogenic bladder that are not related to one another.I was told once on this forum that it is unlikely to have adult onset neurogenic bladder without underlying neurological problem. I have also been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome which is very painful in my neck and shoulders, and probable fibromialgia (fibromyalgia).
Also, my latest symptom is the severe shaking feeling of my eyes not always followed by seizure. It is as though my eyes were try to focus on something moving back and forth before me at extremely high rates of speed.  I cannot control this and my right eye almost always starts to close.
*I have had ms work-up except CSF.
Any information you may be able to offer would be appreciated.
Thank You,
M

Dear M:
A neurologic bladder is not a symptom of seizures or migraine, unless it is due to a structural lesion in the brain.  These lesions are usually in the ACA territory and since you have had a MRI that was normal (?) it is likely not associated with your migraine/epilepsy syndrome.  Did you have a tethered cord or other spinal cord abnormality?  The eye problem sounds like your basilar migraine.  The territory supplied by the basilar artery is in the posterior fossa and occipital lobes (this is the visual area).  Although it has been reported in some patients with your disorder that the epileptogenic areas can move and I guess it is possible that a epileptic discharge could be causing your vision or eye findings.  The only way to tell for sure is an EEG during one of your visual episodes.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro MD
