: A friend of mine wanted me to do some research. A doctor finally put a name to it. Neuromyopathy. They say they can't do anything for her. Can this be associated with an auto-immune problem? Can it be helped by changing her memory T-Cells? Her skin crawls at night then goes down her legs and hands and then comes the pain.
Also, while I have you with me. Do you know of anything about multipul personality disorder?

Dear Debra. I hope I can shed alittle light on your questions. I'm not exactly sure what her doctors mean
by the term neuromyopathy. A neuropathy is a disorder that affects the peripheral nerves (nerves that run
out from your spinal cord). Patients complain of a wide range of symptoms but usually have sensory changes
such as burning feet, tingling, electric sensations, band sensations. The synptoms usually start in the feet and progress
upwards eventually affecting the hands. Motor strength can also be affected. There can be many causes but diabetes is
the most common. Vitamin deficiencies, and certain medications can also cause similar problems. Mimickers such as multiple sclerosis and spinal cord abnormlities
can also cause similar type sensations. Often no matter what tests are done a diagnosis can not be made. Various lab studies and
an EMG (electomyogram) should be done. Muscle and nerve biopsies are also done at times.
A myopathy is a different type of disorder, where the muscle itself is affected but not the nerve. Usually peple do not complain
of sensory symptoms. I'm not exactly sure what a neuromyopathy is.
Some neuropathies are caused by auto-immune abnormalities and are treated with various medications to inhibit the immune system.
Sounds like more information is needed on this case - good luck.
I do not treat MPD .
