esophagitisEsophagitis
Herpes esophagitis
Herpetic esophagitis. i have lost alot of weight due to the fact that i have no appetite, and get full after only a small intake of food, along with nausea. at times i black out (not faint, things just go black for a few seconds) when i stand up. i have trouble with my balance, i dont fall, i just stagger. i have sensations of pressure in my chest and neck and periods of shortness of breath. and at times upon awakening the room is spinning and i immediately throw up. i have begun to have swelling in my legs and feet, only occasionally at first, but more frequently now, and lasting for longer periods. i have also recently been diagnosed with double depression. i an on topral xr for arrhythmias, remeron and effexor for the depression, prevacid for the gastric, and klonopin to help me sleep. my pcp has finally determined that he thinks i have dysautonomia and i have been unable to find much information about this. i am not diabetic nor am i of ethnic decent so where would this be coming from. could it be that he is using the term to explain a state of mind and body that cannot otherwise be explained? i have lost so much weight that i have been told no working, i need to get back on my feet and resume my life. do you have any suggestions or information that could shed some light on this? i would appreciate any insight you could give me. thanks no name out of self defense
Dear Anonymous:
Sounds like the last couple year have been pretty bad. Outside of your postural hypotension and nausea and vomiting you really do not have the classic signs and symptoms of dysautonomic neuropathies. I really do not hear anhidrosis (lack of sweating), paralyzed pupillary reflexes, loss of lacrimation, sexual dysfunction, severe fatigue, swings in blood pressure etc. I think that I would get a second opinion from another physician, a neurologist would be a good choice. I would take all the laboratory work, neuroimaging studies and have him/her take a good look at your with a neurological exam etc.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro MD
