My doctor is finally ordering a muscle biopsy for me and now I'm alittle nervous.  I have muscle weakness and muscle pain and muscle swelling all day every day. If I have the biopsy and I'm already having these problems will I have problems after the biopsy?  I also have muscle wasting and I can hardly get up stairs or up from a sitting position.  My muscles in my legs are really large and sore.  Should i really get a biopsy?  My problems have be getting worse slowly over a period of 8 years but it has recently has progressed.  Question #2- Is there any medication to help with the muscle cramping and pain.  It's worse at night,i'm not getting any sleep.

A muscle biopsy is usually ordered when there is a suspicion of something actually wrong with the muscle (for example, inflammation). Pain in muscles is often NOT the result of any abnormality in the muscle. If your doctor has ordered the biopsy, he/she probably has a few possibilities in mind. Some of your symptoms do sound suspicious for a myopathy (muscle disorder), though it is not possible with the data available to speculate what it might be.
If you have second thoughts about the biopsy, ask your doctor to explain the logic behind it. If you are concerned that you might not follow all he/she says about it, take your spouse or a friend to the visit. Two heads are better than one.
Biopsies are usually taken from a site which is anticipated to cause little or no additional trouble. They take only a small amount of muscle. As with any surgical procedure, you might expect some discomfort. Here, too, if you are concerned about the outcome, your doctor is the best source of information about what to expect. Be as informed as you can, and that usually helps the worrying.
I can't suggest any medications. But ask your doctor.

Thank you for resonding.  Doctors do not have a clue as to what is wrong with me. I have strange things wrong and many symptoms. For 4 years my primary doctor has been trying to diagnose me with no success.  I am continuing to get weaker. I admit I feel the muscle pain,weakness,etc is because there is something else going on in my body. Doing the muscle biopsy is like fishing and I know thats not what it's meant for but what else can my doctor do looking for answers?Other things medicialy wrong with me are pitiuitary cyst, kidney cyst and tumor, adrenal cyst,enlarged thyroid,hypoglocima,extreme fatiugue,etc. I am so tired of living like this.
