Thanks for your question.  The initial diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis can
be trying on the patient, and on many occasions the initial MRI scan can
be negative.  One test commonly performed during the MS evaluation, but not
mention in your posting, is a "spinal tap" or Lumbar Puncture for the analysis
of your Cerebro-Spinal Fluid (CSF).  Once again, the CSF could potentially
be negative if the disease is not "active".  Regarding your bladder symptoms,
MS is a possible etiology, but you should discuss with your physician other
possible causes of incontinence - for instance, are there signs of infection?
If you live in the Cleveland area, the Mellen Center (Dept. Neurology) at
the Cleveland Clinic has a group of world-renowed neurologists specialized
in MS (Drs. Rudick, Cohen, and Kinkel).
If you wish an appointment at the Department of Neurology at the Cleveland
Clinic, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE, or 1-216-444-5559.
I hope this information is helpful.  Best of luck.
