Read this if suffering from undiagnosed neurological problems

by myooshka, Aug 21, 2008 02:42AM
I have had undiagnosed neurological problems for two years and no neurologist can figure out what is going on. I have hyper reflexes, ms symptoms and muscle atrophy as well as peripheral neuropathy yet all of my tests come back normal. My neighbor kept telling me to get tested for Celiac's and I kept saying no I don't have any gastro problems except constipation. I have two nephews with Celiac's and two sisters as well. To my surprise when I googled Celiac's neurological symptoms many articles came up that fit to a tee. I was stunned and many of the people who suffer the neurological problems as a result of Celiac's do not have the gasro problems most people associate with celiac's. I am thinking most Dr's and neuro's aren't aware of this as I told the many (7 neuro's) I've seen my family history and not one mentioned there could be a connection. I think I may finally get my answer! To anyone out there who has been undiagnosed and having neurological problems with tests coming up normal please get tested for Celiac's. If you have no intestinal damage it will be the blood work that will show the gluten intolerance. Remember from what I have read the majority of people who have neurological problems as a result of Celiac's do not have gastro problems. Some people get better when they start a gluten free diet for others the damage is permanent. They feel some neurological diseases are caused by this gluten problem. But hey if there is a chance this could help clear up my problem then I will try anything! Here are a few links to look into but just Google celiac neurological, even the mayo clinc had studies on this. I hope you find your answers I feel like I am on the way to finding mine. We must keep ourselves educated as there seems to be a lack of knowledge in the medical community about this. I have seen probably almost 20 doctor's and specialist who were very aware of the major family history of celiac's and not one ever mentioned this as a possibility for my neurological problems. At first they would all say depression/anxiety and then when physical findings started to show the just gave me no answers and wanted to prescribe antidepressants. I hope this helps some people Hhttp://www.csaceliacs.org/library/neurocomp.php, http://ezinearticles.com/?Brain-And-Neurological-Problems-Affect-Almost-Half-Of-Celiacs-Even-With-A-Gluten-Free-Diet&id=904155
