Josie,
Here is a link to a website that discusses the arachnoid tumor and other ones, and at the bottom of the article, they give varying recoveryRecovery position - series times, from a few days to a few months. I just googled "arachnoid tumor, surgery, recoveryRecovery position - series" and this was one of the websites that came up. I reckon it's good you're having it in December, partly because Christmas vacationVacation health care is coming up, and partly because if the recovery goes nuts, you can make up the upcoming half year in the summer, and in fall continue school as usual. If it's short recovery, you can get your teachers to provide you with a few weeks' study program for home, to where you can at least get in to just take the semester or quarter finals.
The duration of hospital stay, as well as recovery period at home, would ultimately depend on the properties of the cyst (size and location), as well as other factors that might affect recovery (concomitant diseases, complications, etc.). Ask your surgeon about this so that you will have an idea of how long you would have to be in recovery.
