Relationship between Fibromyalgia and AD(H)D

I am ADD (possibly bi-polar II--jury is still out) and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in '86. I recently read an article in an anthology about women with ADHD that was written by a psychiatrist and neuropsychologist (well-referenced) that claimed at least a correlational link, if not a causal one. This article made both scientific and intuitive sense.

Intuitively, I keep "getting" (however one "gets" things intuitively) that dopamine deficiencies are intrinsically involved in fibromyalgia (likely AD(H)D as well since some of the AD(H)D meds like Ritalin have often been effective in reducing fibromyalgia symptoms).

My question is how much research has been done on a link between fibromyalgia and AD(H)D and whether any data has turned up indicating involvement in one or more of the major dopamine pathways. Or anything else brain-related such as other neurotransmitters.

(As a possible point of interest, I have been turning up some interesting information about the mind/body relationship, which is especially germane to fibromyalgia, in literature on psychoneuroimmunology and the new field of "epigenetics." I suspect that traditional allopathic medicine may not be able to adequately explain fibromyalgia without venturing deeper into the mind/body connection.)

Thank you for your time.

I do know of a possible link between these maladies, although it might not pertain to you.
An underlying infection, such as Borrelia burgdorferi, can cause fibromyalgia syndrome, attention deficit, and various mental health symptoms, including depression and bipolar.

Wishing you the best,
Carol
