Reversing 3yrs of nontreated mg

  I have been taking care of a 63yo man for 3yrs. He was misdiagnosed with ALS. Last week we found out he has mg.  He probably was in a mg crisis 3yrs ago that left him on a ventilator and with a G-tube.  How much improvement can I expect with the start of medications?  He is a very strong healthy man that hasn't had much deterioration in the 3 yrs I have been with him.  I very much want to rehab him to his fullest potential but do not want to be unrealistic.  I would appreciate any advice.  Sincerly Wendy

Sounds tough Wendy but at least with MG he has a chance at recovery. I think the biggest problem will be overcoming deconditioning problems that he may have. All patients respond differently to medications and it is difficult to predict how he will do but we should have cautious hope. Many patients with MG live normal lives and medications can have a profound affect on a patients life. I wish him the best of life and hope that he can remove his feeding tube in the future.
