Right Side Of Face, Sharp Pain

Right Side Of Face, Sharp Pain

Hello!

Ok, this may sound a little raunchy and that is not my intention but its an explanation of how something happened and my girlfriend and i are at a complete loss of whats going on, its really hard for me to convince her to go to the doctors so any advice or consultation would be amazing.

My girlfriend and i were having sex and when she climaxed she started crying, she said her right ear hurt really bad and then the entire right side of her face started to hurt really bad, it was a stabbing type pain. After that, she could not hear out of her right ear, after awhile the pain subsided but any noise really hurt her ear.

So the question is, what could this pain be from?

No, health question (well.. almost none) is raunchy or unacceptable, especially in an anonymous forum.

First off, I'm not a neurologist.  I encourage you to have your girlfriend be evaluated as soon as poosible and I'll explain why.  Any headache that is severe enough to cause crying and lingering symptoms AND is a COMPLETELY NEW headache to a person needs evaluation.  That's basic medicine.  Second, the onset of the headache was with exertion and was very sudden.  That kind of headache is suggestive of pain with increased pressure in the head.  That's the second reason to be evaluated.  New type of severe headache and sudden appearance with exertion.  Even if the headache is complete gone now.

Now, try not to be frightened after I said that, becasue I know it was scary.  It's unlikely that your girlfriend really does have a serious thing going on, but those are two of the signals to have a check up - soon.

It is more likely one of two things.  There is a form of climax-associated headache that presents like this.  It is not  serious (once you have had the eval to make sure it is not a tumor or a bleed).  A headache specialist would be able to help her with preventing it.  Another possibility is a type of migraine brought on by the activity.  Climax involves intense changes in the vascular flow within the body, especially in the brain and, for some people , this can bring on a migraine.  Again, a neurologist could advise her on treatment.

So, it's PROBABLY a common, treatable type of headache, but do NOT rely on the statistics.  There is very good reason for her to be checked and have a brain scan and, as a physician, I recommend you tell her this and make sure she does it.
