Right hand spasticity, numbness, headaches, dizziness...the list goes on!

I presented to the doctors around 4 years ago with double vision and differing pupil dilations. I was meant to receive a eye specialist referral which I never recevied and things appeared to get better on their own so I ignored it!!!

Since...in the past 6 months it all started with numbness in both my feet and a podiatry referral which revealed nothing. I have since developed double vision, vertigo, nausea and dizzness along with headaches and co-ordination problems. I went back to the doctor who was concerned and the eye spcialist referral came through. Apart from a slight dropping of one eye lid, shaking of one of my eyes consistent with the room spinning and the pupil dilation, nothing could be explained.

In the past 3 weeks I have been experiencing a strong tingling sensation in my right leg and arm and verying severities of spasticity in my right hand which is really starting to concern me. I have been signed off work for 7 weeks so far and I left my nursing course due to feeling very low in mood, emotional and the constant discomfort in my feet. It appears to have been the right decision since I've been off sick for some time now.

All of this has been tallied with long lasting headaches, eye ache, nausea and general low mood. Not to mention the lack of support and co-operation from the DWP and I still have received no income!!

Has anyone experienced similar symptoms or have any ideas!???

....ur symptoms are very similar to those with chiari malformation...to determine or rule this out u need an experienced NS that specializes in chiari....u'll need MRIs of the spine and brain and a flow study called a CINE MRI....there are so many conditions with the samae or overlapping symptoms it is difficult to tell until u have the tests done by the proper dr and the results read by the proper dr.

I am not saying this is what u have, but it is a place to start.I would also check ur thyroid.

Good luck

I am a 32 year old female.  I had an object that weighed 1lbs. fall on the top of my right hand.  My hand ceased up imediately. I went to the ER.   I was in extreme pain and I Could Not feel my fingers or move them.  I told everyone I saw and all they could say was that I had good circulation not to worry about it. I had an x-ray done and of course it wasnt broken.  I was referred to an orthopedic doctor.  He gave me medication (that didnt work).  I had an MRI done and it showed nothing.  The ortho doc referred me to pain management doc.

I saw him and he told me it was RSD.  I had never heard of RSD before. so when I got home I looked it up on the internet. Needless to say I could not believe  what I was reading.  I talked to the PM doc about my options which were not many.  He told me I would have to try different medications and a series of blocks in my neck and possibly a spinal stimulation technique.

The last thing I wanted to do was have anything go near my spine.  I told the PM doc that I would try the block in my neck.   It was supposed to be a series of about 6 over a course of a few weeks or so.  Well I did not have a plesant outcome.  I had one nerve block.  I woke up the next morning about 4:30am in intense pain in my hand and back and in my arm.  I called my PM doc.  And he told me to go to the ER..  So  I did.  They gave 5 shots (one that was morphine) and nothing worked.  I was having back and chest pain.  The PM doctor told me that the blocked worked even though I didnt believe it.  My color had changed and the temperature changed.   So, I guess that was good.  But that didnt help the pain,  and now I am in more pain.... the pain radiates from my hand and up my arm.  I have spasms, burning, screwing, stabbing pain that will not go away.  I can not sleep.

I was also referred to see a pychologist.  I have been talking to him, seeing a PM doc and trying do occupational therapy.  I can barely stand it.  It took me two months to see a hand specialist.  I had to listen to a doctor tell me that I had RSD: TYPE II A (abnormal).  Because I still had (have) numbness in my fingers, my palm, and the under part of my forearm.  He could not explain the numbness, or why I couldnt move my fingers.  He also told me that I may need to see if I have a tumor in my head or in my arm.  I couldnt belive what I was hearing.

I see my PM doc omn a regular basis.  He contiues my meds and therapy.  My PT therapist tells me one day that I am not making any improvement.  I was not happy.  I am in pain and she was trying to keep my joints from becoming stiff.  I do my therapy at home ... well what I can stand.  I have been seeing  a pychologist and he has been working with me to try and think of other things besides the pain.  I have been trying to do that.   Its not easy.

Recently my PM dochas told me that he belives that I dont have as much pain as I have been saying.  That I am confused on when I have pain and where.  The PM doc told me if I wanted to get a second opinon to do so. He also told my pychologist that I was confused.  The PM doc told me that the option before me was to try the spinal stimulation thing.  But that he was afraid to do it becuse he said I had an anxiety attack with the nerve block in my neck.  And he didnt think I was in enough pain to do it.

I saw my PT therapist and she told me my PM doc said I had NO PAIN!  I have put in for a referral to another PM doc.

My pain has not gotten any better, and  I am going on 4 months now.  I have an appointment to see a neurologist... finally.  NEXT MONTH.   But I am not sure what they are going to say.  I was told that the PM Doc might be able to fix the pain but it may take a neurologist to fix the numbness.  Those are some pretty big questionable feats.

If anyone has any comments please feel free to do so.  I am unsure what to do.  I am on an anti-depressant, pain medication (that doesnt work), had a nerve block that didnt help much, and I am on a sleeping pill that doesnt help much.
