Right temple pain associated with heartburn

by Bob-Heath, Aug 03, 1998 12:00AM

I've never had a problem with headaches...until I needed a new pair of glasses. I am having difficulty getting the correct prescription due to unusually high astigmatism in my right eye (they have sent the glasses back about three times). Since that time (about two months ago)I have developed a slight "twinge"-like pain on my right temple which I clearly relate to eyestrain. I have never experienced this prior to my problems with my new prescription (I have had the intermitent pain in my temple for about a month or so). The strange part is that I seem to notice this pain most - although it is intermitent and very mild - when I feel heartburn. I have had heartburn off and on for a number of years (always relieved by antacids) wiht no other symptoms. My assessment is that the muscles in my temple are reacting to the eyestrain and have put pressure on a nerve which is somehow feeling "referred pain" from my heartburn sensation. Is this possible?

Interesting case you present and I'm not sure what to make of it. It is possible that the stomach reflux or irritation is a maker of stress for you and that is why you are getting the headaches. I can not think of a good link otherwise. You should consult with your LMDr on ways to decrease your stomach reflux. Good luck.
