: I HAVE BEEN HAVING INCREASED PAIN IN THE UPPER LEFT SIDE OF MY NECK FOR  >12 YEARS.  MRI'S (X4), CAT SCAN, BONE SCAN, NERVE CONDUCTION STUDIES (X2)HAVE UNTIL NOW REVEALED NOTHING.  TWO WEEKS AGO, FOLLOWING MY LATEST MRI, I WAS TOLD I MAY HAVE A SCHWANOMA ON THE RIGHT SIDE AT C-7.  FOLLOW UP MRI WITH CONTRAST HAS BEEN ORDERED, WAIT IS EXPECTED AT 30 DAYS TO GET IN.
I WAS SHOCKED WHEN TOLD THAT I MAY HAVE A SCHWANOMA, BUT SOMEWHAT RELIEVED THAT MAYBE MY PAIN WOULD FINALLY BE GIVEN A CAUSE.  THEN I FOUND OUT IT WAS ON THE RIGHT VS. LEFT SIDE.  I HAVE NUMBNESS, TINGLING IN LEFT ARM, SHOULDER, CONSTANT PAIN IN THE UPPER LEFT NECK AREA, WITH A KNOT THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY.  STRESS MAKES IT WORSE.  I AM TOLD TO EXERCISE, EAT RIGHT, AND GET PLENTY OF REST.  I HAVE HAD MUSCLE RELAXERS, ANTI DEPRESSANTS, PAIN KILLERS, AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE PRESCRIBED.  I USED TO BE AN ACTIVE PERSON, WHEN THIS STARTED 12+ YEARS AGO.  I HAVE GAINED APPROXIMATELY 20 LBS DURING THIS TIMEFRAME HOWEVER, DUE TO LACK OF ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PAIN.  I AM 38 YEARS OLD, 67" AND 160 LBS.
I AM TIRED OF LIVING WITH PAIN, HAVE NO DESIRE TO LIVE THIS WAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.  ORTHOPEDICS, NEUROLOGISTS, RHEUMATOLOGISTS, ARE ALL SYMPATHETIC, BUT NO ONE CAN IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF MY PROBLEM. help!!
=Dear A. Haynes, By the history you have provided I assume that your problem is purely chronic pain with no other sign s or symptons.  Chronic pain is one of the most difficult entities for any physician to treat.  Because of the chronicity of your problem, I would recommend that you be evlaluated by a pain managemnt specialist (which was not seen on your list).  If you live outside the Ohio region, you may wish to contact the CCF Pain Managemnt Clinic for recomendation for a pain management specialist nearer you.  In addition , you may wish to contact the American Chronic Pain Association (916-632-0922) or the National Chronic Pain Outreach Asociation (301-653-4948) for additional information.  Hope this helps.  "This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.  Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options of your specific medical condition."
