Sacral Nerve Stimulation for recovery of sensory function

Sacral Nerve Stimulation for recovery of sensory function

I have what might be called post-operative tethered nerve from scarring, the S3 root (and probably others that are much less symptomatic) at the S2 vertebral level.  I have had 3 explorations of this area, the first to release/remove an intradural cyst in this area, the 2nd and 3rd to explore repeated loss of function/sensation in the related right S3 dermatome.  Both subsequent explorations found the subject nerve adhered to the dura internally.  The pattern after all 3 surgeries was normal function/sensation initially after surgery, with a gradual loss as I resumed normal activities over the following months.  Symptoms are also positional.

Symptoms are increasing and positional numbness in what is normally the right S3 dermatome, as well as erectile dysfunction.  Reading literature, sacral nerve stimulation has apparently had some impact on patients with sensory loss/abnormalities though normally it is applied when other symptoms present (faecal incontinence seems commmon when googling this topic).  In a case of a tethered nerve, might there be any sensory recover from this treatment?

Hello.

There are references that the sacral nerve stimulation works by stimulating the sensory nerves. And  the evidence is a sensory stimulation on the genital area.

Thanks for your response.    Does CC Westin have any specialists in this area?
