Scalp Pain

I am a 40 yr old non smoking/non drinking female in good health.  In the past month I have experience pain in my scalp twice in the same area.  The pain is at the top of my head and goes down the back about three inches and about two inches across.  It feels like someone has pulled my hair. The area is tender to touch and is relieved my massage but the pain resumes as soon as I stop.  There are no skin liasions. Panadol slightly relieves the pain but after four hours it is back again.  This normally last about 24hrs. I have had migraines before but this is nothing like that has there are no other symptoms.  It is just an extremely uncomfortable pain.  I have no scalp conditions, but have had my hair coloured previously although not for some time.  I hope you may be able to enlighten me as to what this could be.  Thanks for you help.

HI i recently in the summer  got this sudden head pressure and at night would get that scalp or head feeling hot, after my headache or head pressure,,then i would get this.. i wa sso afraid it was due to intracranial pressure,, ask your DR i still don;t know.. very odd

I have the same symptoms but my doctor doesn't know what the cause is. I have Hashimoto's & Primary Sjogren's. Sorry I'm not much help.

Your symptoms sound like occipital neuralgia.  Have you had injury to neck or back of head, especially at C2 level?  Even minor trauma to the nerve can result in excruciating pain.  I've been dealing with this for 28 years.

I have had a gastric bypass and was told that it could be from a vitamin deficiency.  I am increasing my chewable vitamins and liquid B-12 to twice a day.  I'll let you know if I have good results!
