Scar Tissue/Possible Cysts - Severe abdominal Pain

I have had hydro since birth and was first shunted at 6 months.  I had no probs at all for 26 years and then received three revisions in a short space of time. I'm now using a programmable valve, which seems to be adjusted regularly to try and combat severe headaches that I suffer from.

Since the first full revision in July 2001.  I have suffered from severe abdominal pain.  This pain is just below the scar, I assume coming from the area where the shunt tube ends.  In the past year the pain has also started further up just under my ribcage.  The pain is massive and takes my breath away from time to time.  It feels like been jabbed with a hot poker or something.

My neuro who is very good seems mainly concerned about my head issues, and seems really to dismiss the abominal pain by saying it's just scar tissue.  At my last appointment he said it might be cysts and that he would arrange an ultrasound.  Again, though he is not really that bothered about it, I think he is just trying to keep me happy.  I hate the pain I have two small children and lifting them and playing with them can sometimes be really painful and I hate it.

Does anyone have a similar experience and if so what did you do about it?

After the first full revision the neuro thought the abominal pain was an infection but I was checked for that.

I dont know if this can be cysts as the pain has been present really since a day or two after the first operation so I dont think that it can be a cyst or can it?

Any suggestions???

I would recommend having a consulation with a gastroenterologist to have your abdomen evaluated. They will be able to recommend the appropriate tests and exclude other medical causes of abdominal pain. A ultra-sound of the abdomen will be useful to start with, but other imaging studies may be necessary. Good luck.
