Schwannoma/Neurofibroma

Because of unexplained back pain, I recently had an MRI of both thoracic and lumbar spine.  While I'm awaiting follow-up with my doctor, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the results I've received.  The report indicates at the C7-T1 neural foramen, there is a 6 mm cystic structure which could include neurofibrona or schwannoma.  They are recommending a follow-up cervical spine/upper thoracic level MRI because it was only partially seen on this study.

My questions are:  1) What are the chances this could be cancer?  2) If benign, can this turn into cancer?  3)  Will it continue to grow?  4)  What is the remedy for it - surgery?  medication?

Any answers would be most appreciated!  Thanks so much.

Hi, I just wanted to reply. Do you have NF? I have NF and know that not always are the tumors are cancerous, it is my understanding that they usually are not. I know of a good site you can ask and the people are nice ctf.org is great!

Megan,
Thanks for your reply.  No, I don't have Neurofibromatosis.  I had the follow-up MRI today so I hope to have more answers soon.
