Schwannoma at L2

I live in Key West and have justs been diagnosed with an L2 Schwannoma causing lower back and L. leg pain, spasms & weakness.  I need advise as to which Neurosurgeons in the country specialize in this surgery and treatment.  I have BC/BS Florida but can go anywhere in the country where the expert may perform the surgery.  Also would like to know what the best surgical technique would be utilized for this type of nerve tumor?  ANY information would be appreciated!!
Thanks!!  Naomi

i have previously been diagnosed with neurofibroma, which the doctor told me could be removed but advised against it as i had many which would result in multiple scars. They appear in the soft tissue and leave a red discoloration on the surface of the skin. They seem to be triggered when i am stressed and then subside after a few weeks. At present i have one on my leg which seems to be inflamed and is red on the surface. As i walk a lot with my job, i dont know if it aggravates it. I would like some advise and would like to know if there is any treatment other than surgery. Dee

I  have  benign  schwannomas  on  L2  and  L5  of  the  spinal  area.  The  sciatic-like   pain  is  intensifying  and  interfering  with  sleep  as  they  are  probably  growing.  I  will  resist  open  back  surgery  for  as  long  as  humanly  possible.  Are  there  less  invasive ( no  cutting)  procedures  to  shrink  these  tumors?  Anybody  have  the  inside  scoop  about  some  alternative  treatments  out  there?  Thanks,  P.

I just had a Scwannoma removed by Richard G. Fessler at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

I HIGHLY recommend him. "Google" him to find more info.

Good luck. Call me if you want to discuss: (703) 758-0242
