Schwanoma in the finger.

by Wei__0, Feb 07, 1999 12:00AM

  Hi, there:
I had a schwanoma in my finger. It was removed by a plastic surgeon
due to the acute inflammation. And the pathology test later showed it was
a schwanoma (S100 positive). I worry if there is any schwanoma cell left
in my finger and what will be the consequence. Further, what other
possible diseases may be associated with schwanoma and what I should be
cautious about for other health problems.
Thank you very much for your help.
  Best regards,
  Wei.
=========================================================================
Schwannomas are benign tumors of the nerve sheath, individual tumors are
rare sporadic occurrances and are not associated with any systemic
disease. I cannot say if any tumor is left in your finger, I think this is
unlikely as it is easy  completely to excise tumors in this area.
Since this is a benign tumor type, recurrance would take the form of a new
swelling in the area.
Provided the pathology of the origional spacimen confirmed that this was
of the usual benign type, you have nothing further to worry about.
