Second opinion on MG

Posted By Mark Dowdy on February 12, 1999 at 12:31:40:

I have been dx with MG for 2 1/2 years. I had a thymectomy 2 years ago and
have been on Mestinon and prednisone at varying doses. Recently, I have
gotten worse, particularly with breathing problems. My neurologist does
not have much experience with MG (I was her first MG patient.) I would like
to talk with a neurologist experienced in treating MG. I don't want to
change neurologists, necessarily, but would like another, more tested
opinion. My questions are these: If I am willing to come to the Cleveland
Clinic, is it feasible for me to speak at length with a MG specialist, and
is it possible for that specialist to communicate with my neurologist? Also,
will insurances generally cover such a consultation? (I do not have an
HMO.) Additionally, is it possible to speak with an MG specialist in
Florida, versus, Cleveland? Thank you.
