MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

I hope you are better.

Alterations in taste sensation and smell may be brought about by several factors like multiple sclerosis, medications like antipsychotics, statins, antiparkinsonian medications, antibiotics. Exposure to insecticides, dental and gum problems, and some forms of seizures.

Complex partial seizures may present with an aura. This may be in the form of hallucinations or sensory impairment.Complex partial seizures may have a secondary generalized seizure to follow it.

Although  a well defined neurophysiologic explanation is not readily available for dysgeusia ( impaired taste) and impaired sense of smell, neurological conditions may be accompanied by similar presentations.

I suggest you seek consult with a neurologist for a thorough physical examination . An EEG and brain scans may be helpful.

Keep us posted.Good luck.

Hi.  I had the same thing happen to me for a couple of years.  Then, about 6 weeks ago, I woke up staring into the faces of about 8 paramedics.  I had a grand mal seizure in my sleep with absolutely no warning.  So---please be careful.  I am just glad it did not happen while I was driving my kids down the road. Now, I can't drive for 6 months.  Better safe than sorry.

I don't know about the tastes from seizures, but, to my knowledge, the gluten allergy shouldn't affect the tastebuds.  My daughter has Celiac - which is an allergy to wheat (gluten).  Before she was diagnosed, her symptoms consisted primarily of stomach pain and nose bleeds.  The vision and hearing problems could be signs of migraines.  I often get tunnel and/or blurred vision with mine.  Have you had any recent dental work done?  It might not be a bad idea to have x-rays of your teeth.  If you have infection in your gums, it can cause MANY symptoms including headaches, odd tastes..  That would be my only suggestion at this point.  Good Luck!!

hi, one rule of thumb to think about, is that anything the body can do normally, it can do abnormaly in the form of a seizure. I would like to encourage you to educate yourself on seizures. Check in your area, there may be a Epilpesy Foundation in your area, that can assist you in understanding seizures. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
