Severe Burning Under The Skin

My grandmother in almost 83 and for the past month she has experienced a severe burning sensation in different parts of her body (not any organs). The feeling would hit and she would use a cold rag to help with the burning and after a while it would go away. In the past 3 days the burning has moved from her feet to her abdomen and has not gone away. Her doctors have no idea what is wrong. The have run blood work and told her at first to try tylenoyl and benodryl. Nothing is working. I would like to get an idea of what it could be so we have someplace to start with her doctors. Any ideas on what it could be?

Hi, Sorry to hear about your Grandmothers discomfort!  My mother is 77 Yr. old and is having the same symptoms.  Her Dr. says it is not shingles coming becasue it does not come on both sides at the same time.  Her burning is now for 1 1/2 wks from her waist down to the knees of both legs and there is no shingles rash.  2 wks ago the symptoms were from the shoulders down to the elbows of both arms.  She can' t stand the pain/discomfort the Dr. says he does not know what to do.  HELP someone!!!  momsdoctordaughter
