Severe Chronic Headaches

Severe Chronic Headaches

My wife Eva was in a single car accident in the late 70's with multiple fractures of the left eye arch, cheek bones.  She started getting headaches coming from the right occipital area, and going over her head and through to her eyes.  These headaches have esculated to the point where she is on total disability, and we both had to retire to care for her.  I have read all your postings and Eva has been referred to every pain clinic, in/out patient, therapies and been put on most every medication with little reduction in severity of headache pain.  Then two years ago our family doctor put her on a combination of Tylenol#4 and Fioricet, as needed.  This helped more then anything.  Also the "home health care" dept of our local hospital taught me how to give Demerol injections, when the pain reached the point that before, she would have to go to ER/in-patient for the pain and dehydration from vomiting.  The last RX for 10 carpujets of Demerol lasted for 3-1/2 months.  She was alert, able to function with her pain reduced to a 3-4, instead of a crippling 8-10.  All records were current, and all Missouri Statues re: DEA, etc..were met.  She hadn't had to go to the ER/hospital at all!  Then last summer our doctor of 26+ years was killed in a traffic accident.  Since
that time, his replacement, the hospital's pain clinic have all REFUSED to follow the succesful regiment.  In the last month we have learned so much re: the "ground swell" of millions in chronic pain.  We thought Eva "suffered alone".  I plead for someone to help her to have the pain reduced to a manageble level, while we continue to persue a reason/cure for her malady.  Any suggestions you have will be considered.
  Sincerely,
  William Brown

Dear Mr. Brown:
I am sorry to hear about all the uncomfort that your wife has had to go through.  It is difficult to fight city hall.  I think what your left with is either to go along with the pain clinic at your hospital or find a doctor near you that will prescribe what has helped her in the past.  I know that this doesn't help much but there is little else to do.  There must be someone who will help you in the state where you live.  I hope that you find that someone soon.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro[P] MD
