Severe Nerve Pain in Foot

by lnsycsn, Oct 26, 2009 05:33PM
Hi MedHelpers!

Recently, I had knee surgery to repair a Left ACL tear, the surgery ended up just being a clean up surgery as it was not as torn as they have previously thought. Reguardless, I had a femoral nerve block on that leg as well as General Anesthesia. The numbness wore off after about 48 Hours completely, except for my big toe on that foot. I wasn't concerned, I figured the feeling would come back eventually and it wasn't really bothering me, then, 4 weeks later, the feeling is back, although now, I have the most SEVERE pain in my big toe and it has now spread to the next toe over (and seems as though its spreading down my arch), it's clearly nerve pain, its shooting sharp pain. There is a little swelling now over the past four days since its been uncontrolable. When I walk on my foot, it DOES NOT hurt, stops hurting all together, when I shake it really hard, it stops hurting. As soon as I sit, or lay down it hurts so bad I can't sleep, or even sit and watch TV without being in extreme pain. I finally resorted to taking a narcotic to be able to sleep! I never take pain meds, not even after surgery. Ibuprofen 800 has also not helped with swelling or pain. Someone please tell me if they think I should have this checked out sooner then my next check up, or should should I just stick it out until my next appointment.

Thanks!

Lindsey
